Rise Above ProjectStudent Work, 2012 In Winter 2012, students in Miss Hirshfield's period 1 Junior English class read William Golding's Lord of the Flies . After completing the text, they wondered why it is that good people often do bad things. They next learned about Phillip Zimbardo's Stanford Prison Experiment, which answered their question by suggesting that when you put "good apples" in a "bad barrel," the apples are destined to go bad. Through heroic exemplars, however, this class proved Zimbardo wrong -- they proved that it is possible to rise above your environment and take control of your circumstances.
